Three fed-up women turn a book club into a lifeline—and then a movement—discovering that friendship, stories, and righteous anger might just be enough to change their lives… and maybe more. A refreshing book lover’s delight for readers of Michelle Stimpson, Terry McMillan, and Terah Shelton Harris from the multi-award-winning author of The Filling Station and The American Queen…

DELUXE PAPERBACK with gorgeous stenciled edges.

Just months ago, three very different women were strangers to each other. But one bookstore meltdown and a couple of chance encounters later, and they’ve formed The Disgruntled Black Ladies Book Club—a place to share their dilemmas while delving deep into literature.

Attorney Ericka Williams has little time for self-pity, but she’s hit her limit. She moved from Los Angeles to Charlotte to help care for her mother-in-law, and now her husband is demanding they have a baby. What about her career and her pro-bono work that helps so many? Slowing down is a sacrifice she’s not sure she wants to make.

Single mother Kenyatta James has a chip on her shoulder as big as the beautiful Afrocentric leather bags she creates. She’s worked too hard to still feel like a disappointment compared to her “perfect” siblings. With her daughter grown, Kenyatta’s ready to focus on her business, until a phone call throws every plan into question.

Alexis Osborn is a renowned motivational speaker who empowers other women to fulfill their dreams, but her own marriage is in deep trouble. Alexis started the book club to help her newfound friends, but it might be the catalyst she desperately needs.

From the works of Octavia Butler to Jesmyn Ward to Michelle Obama, book by book, truth by truth, Alexis, Kenyatta, and Ericka are finding strength to help each other—and along the way, they just might ignite a movement that can be so much more . . .
