Denmark 1943. After three years of Nazi occupation, the country’s Jewish population faces arrest and deportation.

In the coastal town of Elsinore, bookbinder’s apprentice Leif Jensen becomes involved with a clandestine organisation whose harmless name disguises its dangerous work: the Elsinore Sewing Club. Under cover of darkness, its members use small fishing boats to carry Jewish refugees and Danish resistance fighters across the treacherous Øresund to freedom in neutral Sweden.

When Leif falls in love with Hannah, a young Jewish woman in hiding, the risks become intensely personal. The German authorities are closing in and every crossing brings fresh danger. The discovery of a possible traitor within the resistance threatens Hannah, Leif, and the entire escape network.

Leif must discover whom he can trust before it is too late.

Inspired by the remarkable true story of the men and women who helped rescue Denmark’s Jewish population, Elsinore Sewing Club is a tense and deeply human novel of courage, love, and betrayal during the Second World War.
