  • He adopted the pen name John Sandford at the suggestion of his publisher when Rules of Prey launched in 1989.

  • His Virgil Flowers spin-off series began with Dark of the Moon (2007) and features a more laid-back investigator from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
