The only thing harder than losing her was seeing her again.

I had this Christmas handled. A billion-dollar merger. My family’s expectations. An almost-engagement.

Then Indigo Beaumont came back to New York.

Three years ago, I did the one reckless thing a Hale man never does. I had fun—with Indigo, the wrong Beaumont sister.

She paints for a living in Haight-Ashbury while her family builds billion-dollar companies on Manhattan’s Millionaire Mile. She was never the sensible choice.

So I did what Hale men have always done. I chose duty, ambition, shareholder value—and the sister who made sense on paper. It lasted a few short months—but my ex insists we keep up the pretense until the merger dust settles and we’re past the holidays.

Which means I’m single, even if nobody knows it.

And Indigo isn’t three thousand miles away anymore—she’s here, close enough to see, close enough to touch.

This holiday season, my carefully constructed life is coming undone. And by New Year’s, nothing will be where I left it.
